Prana is the life force that animates the body and feeds the mind. It’s the intelligence that coordinates our senses and that guides us to perceive our true nature. Yogic tradition describes the 5 fonctions of Prana as the Vayus or “winds”, referring to the breath. These breaths govern different parts of the body and work at both the physical and subtle levels of our being. Lyne will show you a simple and accessible approach to discovering their benefits and harmonious functioning, through postures and pranayama.
About Lyne St-Roch:
Quebec yoga pioneer, founder of Lyne St-Roch Studios in 2001, certified in exercise science at the University of Sherbrooke, massage therapist and renown yoga teacher, Lyne St-Roch possesses vast experience in the area of yoga and well-being. Over the years, she has given numerous teacher trainings, workshops and conferences, and many of today’s teachers in Montreal, as well as the rest of Quebec, have studied with her. Lyne contributes regularly to LaPresse+, among other media. She is always ready to listen to individual needs, while her teachings have influenced the lives of thousands of men and women.

Join us for a playful and empowering exploration of arm balances and inversions. This 3-hour workshop is ideal for experienced yoga students and teachers. You’ll learn:
– keys to creating healthy alignment and action in the hands, wrists, arms and shoulders
– how to build and recruit core stability to deepen your practice of arm balances and inversions.
– tips for progressive sequencing to skillfully work toward more complex and challenging poses
– how to modify, explore and refine your practice through variations, partner work and props
Passionate yoga educator and seasoned seeker on the path, Barrie has been immersed in the teachings and practices of yoga for more than two decades. Her teaching weaves together technical precision with an ever-present awareness of the great wisdom of yoga philosophy.
Barrie has lead retreats, teacher trainings and workshops throughout Canada and internationally since 2004. Barrie has been a student of Iyengar Yoga since 1993 and was a certified Anusara Yoga teacher and teacher-trainer from 2003 – 2012, as well as member of the Anusara Yoga Teacher Certification Committee.
She is the creator of The Skilful Yogi, a unique online professional development program for yoga teachers and author of the Skilful Yogi blog. Most recently, she serves as co-director of the World Spine Care Yoga Project, whose mission is to empower underserved populations to share the practices of yoga. Principles of Optimum Health with Bhaskar Goswami

This fall, join Yoga Master Bhaskar Goswami as he shares his wisdom of the Sivananda principles of optimal health. Each week Bhaskar will expand on one of the Sivananda philosophies as summarized in 5 principles: Proper exercise (Asanas), Proper breathing (Pranayama), Proper relaxation (Savasana), Proper diet (Vegetarian), and Positive thinking and meditation (Vedanta/Dhyana). This series is open to anyone looking to take their yoga beyond the mat.
From Assam, India, Bhaskar was born into the yogic tradition. He comes from the lineage of Vasishtha, who is considered to be one of the founding fathers of this ancient practice. He has been trained at the Transcendental Meditation school of Assam in India, by Yogacharya Nandakumar in Kuwait and by Siromani Sriram and the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta in Canada. His 10-year international engineering career provides him with a strong understanding of work-life balance. In 2007 he founded the multiple award winning BODHI (bodhiprinciple.com), a company dedicated to offering genuine wellbeing to people in workplaces and schools. In 2014 he co-founded the non-profit organization daana (globaldaana.org) promoting wellness for all. He is an acclaimed speaker, a certified Naturopath and a father of three beautiful children. The foundation of his teaching is breath awareness.
take it to the mat

This fall support Lymphoma Canada at take it to the mat, The Great Yoga & Meditation Revolution. Take it to the mat is the only pledge-driven fundraising event of its kind in Canada. This event incorporates the benefits of yoga, meditation and living a happier and healthy lifestyle. Participants are given the opportunity to enrich their own mind-body connection while supporting those affected by lymphoma. A wonderful community of people gather together to enhance their well-being at this inspiring and meaningful event.
On November 5, join Nikki Balch, co-host of The Beat 92.5 Vinny and Nikki morning show, the MC for this all-inclusive day, and get treated to a healthy breakfast from Second Cup and lunch from Copper Branch, a keynote address from Lisa Brookman and Elizabeth Wiener from Wise Women Canada, and either a 108-minute yoga class or meditation workshop from some of Montreal’s finest instructors designed to challenge practitioners of all levels.

Learn to teach yoga to people with limited mobility and a wide range of muscle-skeletal conditions and pain. The World Spine Care Yoga Project Yoga Project protocol combines adapted and prop-assisted postures, breath-work and mindfulness to make the wide-ranging mental and physical benefits of yoga accessible to often under served populations.
This training is ideal for yoga teachers, chiropractors, osteopaths, massage therapists, physical therapists, doctors and medical students and all wellness professionals who wish to incorporate yoga into their therapeutic practices. A comprehensive training manual with posture syllabus, key alignments and prop modifications for all postures, class sequences, guided breath-work and mindfulness exercises is included.
All proceeds from this training will go toward funding the work of the World Spine Care Yoga Project, whose mission is to bring the benefits of yoga to under served communities.

About the World Spine Care Yoga Project
World Spine Care is “a global charity on a mission to improve lives in under-served communities. We aim to create a world in which everyone has access to the highest quality spine care possible”. The Yoga Project is the one of the active and preventative care initiatives supporting WSC’s mission to provide integrated evidence based spine care. The Yoga Project also builds capacity by teaching local clinic patients to teach their communities adapted postures, mindfulness and breathing techniques for pain management and increased mobility.
The Yoga Project launched in Botswana in 2016 and is going strong today. The proceeds from this training will go to supporting the community teachers in Botswana giving them more opportunity to learn and serve their communities as well as training new teachers.
About Barrie Risman – Yoga Teacher & Trainer, Co-Director, World Spine Care Yoga Project
Barrie Risman is widely regarded as one of Canada’s most highly skilled yoga educators, teacher–trainers and mentors. She is well known for her ability to convey the essence of the awakened teachings of yoga with exceptional clarity, insight, and relevance to students of all levels and from all walks of life. Her events weave together the technical precision of alignment-based practice with an ever-present awareness of the great wisdom of yoga philosophy distilled from decades of intensive study and practice.
Barrie was the co-founder of Shri Yoga, Montreal’s seminal place for the practice of Alignment-based, Heart-centered Hatha Yoga from 2011-2016. From 2003-2012, she was a Senior Anusara Yoga teacher and teacher trainer. She has been a student of Iyengar Yoga since 1993. Most recently, she is the creator of The Skillful Yogi, an online mentoring program for yoga teachers. She is currently at work on her first book: Evolving Your Yoga: A Seeker’s Guide to Deepening, Integrating and Expanding the Benefits of Practice.
Prerequisite: Completion of a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training, be a current medical professional or medical student. For 200 hour certified Yoga Teachers the credits for this training can be applied towards a 500 hour certification and is eligible for CEUs with Yoga Alliance. These hours can also be applied toward the elective hours required for HappyTree’s 300-hour Advanced Teacher Training beginning September 2018.
