Winter 2018 News

Dear HappyTree Community,

Happy New Year! May 2018 bring you real peace, deep connection, abundant joy and blessings.

It’s hard to believe that November 2017 marked ten years of service to the community through our genuine, warm and welcoming yoga studio. For an entire rewarding decade, we’ve had the great privilege of inspiring growth and joy, of leading through collaboration – not competition – and of supporting thousands of individuals through life challenges and change.

Thank you for your encouragement over the years and for continuing to believe in our mission of making the true heart of Yoga – compassion, peace, joy, universal truth and union – accessible to everyone.

The Four Pillars of HappyTree

In celebration of our big milestone, one of our dear members, acclaimed artist John Schweitzer, captured the heart and spirit of HappyTree with his dyptic collage aptly titled, “Une décennie de détente”. As quoted in the Westmount Independent, John’s goal was “to suggest that the spiritual values of yoga eclipse the physical benefits of exercise”. Come by the studio to admire John’s uplifting work!

One type of collaboration I’m particularly proud of is the partnerships we have made with some of the most respected yoga masters in our city and beyond! Thanks to their passion and expertise, we have now added three new teacher trainings and some unique workshops this year.

HappyTree Yoga and Vidalia Yoga are proudly joining forces to offer you a Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training with Shabad Saroop Singh Khalsa (he trained me to be a Kundalini teacher over ten years ago!). Early bird ends this Friday!

Amanda DeGrace, Shabad Khalsa, Melanie Richards and Barrie Risman at our last YTT info session of 2017. Join our next one tonight at 6:00 pm!

Barrie will be giving a Spinal Care, Musculoskeletal Pain and Disorders training in February (open to everyone!) and her 300-hour Advanced Hatha Yoga Teacher Training is starting in September. I’m personally looking forward to participating in both! Will you join me?

Lyne St Roch will be back at HappyTree on March 15th!
Our 200-hour Hatha Yoga Teacher Training is filling up fast. If you’re feeling the call to take it and still have a few questions, join me in the lounge tonight at 6:00 pm for our last info session before the training begins. There’s still time! We’ll
also be answering questions about the Little Lotus Kids YTT happening in May.

I’m thrilled to be inviting Bram Levinson back to the studio at the end of January for his ever popular Shedding Fear, Anxiety and Insecurity workshop and I’m equally delighted to be hosting Lyne St Roch again on March 15th for her Pranayama workshop. Our beloved Christine Guenette will be taking you on a coaching journey through the Chakras for a future you can get really excited about and I’ll be back with my meditation series – beginners and non-meditators are welcome!

If you haven’t seen our new schedule yet, check it out and share it with all your friends! We have new beginner yoga classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:15 am, as well as Tuesdays at 5:00 pm. If you haven’t tried Brian Miller’s class yet – and even if you have – I highly recommend you join this brilliant Ashtanga Yoga master on Mondays at 6:15 pm and Thursdays at noon for a taste of the traditional Primary Series (one of my very favourite practices!). And for a powerful mid-week boost, come to my new Kundalini class, Wednesdays at 9:15 am.

Lauren Enright graduated from the HappyTree hatha teacher training in 2013 and has since gone on to specialize in prenatal, postnatal and children’s yoga. She is a Doula and mother of two little cuties under the age of four. Join her for family yoga (ages 3 to 7) on Saturdays from 9:00-9:45 am, Prenatal Yoga on Wednesdays at 7:30 pm and Postnatal Yoga on Wednesdays at 10:30 am.

The second annual Expo Yoga is fast approaching and I’m honoured to be contributing again this year with a workshop on Yin Yoga for beating the winter blues and a mood-boosting class for all-levels. Brian Miller, Barrie Risman, Bhaskar Goswami, Bram, Lyne and Shabad will also be teaching at the Expo this year! Buy your tickets online now.

Last and certainly not least, a reminder that the unbeatable early bird price for our Morocco retreat ends on January 31st!

Morocco 2017. Register now for our March 24-31, 2018 retreat!

Here is what my spiritual mentor, Lisa Lajoie, had to say about last year’s experience:

“Someone asked me what my highlights were in 2017 over our New Year’s dinner with friends. Going to Morocco was one of the best trips I’ve ever had. It was truly beautiful and deeply rewarding. Morocco is a wonderful place to see and especially in a paradise retreat setting, like the one Kalid Alaoui offers. Melanie Richards and Bhaskar Goswami are beautiful generous and wonderful people to experience. Believe me you will love the daily yoga classes, mindfulness talks, walks in the gardens and the giggles and laughter. If you need a time out and a get away with yourself, to grow, deep dive into your heart, just relax, learn, awaken or simply hit a worthwhile vacation spot, come. It is truly a meaningful experience.”

I can’t wait to share a fresh new start with all of you for the best year, yet!

Love and hugs,

Melanie Richards
